{"id":6230,"date":"2020-10-13T18:56:53","date_gmt":"2020-10-13T18:56:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stichler.co.uk\/?p=6230"},"modified":"2020-10-13T18:56:53","modified_gmt":"2020-10-13T18:56:53","slug":"take-a-seat-with-the-gannets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stichler.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/10\/13\/take-a-seat-with-the-gannets\/","title":{"rendered":"Take a Seat With the Gannets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The next carving at Sewerby Hall was the first of three log benches; in contrast to the fish carving (see previous post) this had to be far more simple as it has to function as a seat first and foremost: any carving has to be made shallow to maintain a fair amount of comfort, and is there only for a bit of embellishment really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gannets are seen between March and October at Bempton cliffs, local to Sewerby. They are a  very striking bird, although I admit to not having seen one in the flesh! I toyed with the idea of carving the bird diving into water with it being such a spectacle, but I wasn&#8217;t sure that it was an instantly recognisable image, especially for those not familiar with Gannets.
