Usually my heart sinks a little when I’m asked to carve an owl ~ what about a gnome, or a dragon, or even a hare (once everyone wanted hares, now I rarely get to carve one)? But…I actually enjoyed carving this little chap (or should I say “lady”, as he/she has been christened “Tina” by the customer!)
The customer supplied a nice maple log which carved well and took a fair amount of detail, with a lovely creamy colour when oiled. Maybe owls aren’t that bad!
