A fantastic day all round in Driffield, East Yorkshire, where nine mostly home-educated children and parents had the first of two carving sessions. A lovely warm Autumnal day, with a really pleasant group in a beautiful setting ~ it’s no wonder the three hours flew by.
I’d managed to source some high-quality logs from the ever-reliable Pete Bowser Tree Services, with a great selection of sycamore, cherry, purple plum and robinia (or false acacia).
Despite some nervous expressions at the beginning, the children took to the carving immediately and are well on the way to completing some impressive sculptures!
A flower, and the Yin and Yang symbol….
….and somewhere in the distance is a carving of Thor’s Hammer!
After this first session everyone has got some depth to their relief carvings ~ next time we’ll be shaping the designs and putting in the detail.
