Next at Sewerby Hall were a couple of large logs very near the fence surrounding Bluebell Wood ~ one was earmarked for another fairy, conscious as I was about equal numbers of male and female woodland folk, whilst the other had been specially requested: every day whilst I was carving there would be hoards of families, with small children especially taking an interest in the fairyland theme; I would always ask what they would like to see carved on the remaining logs, and a unicorn was, perhaps unsurprisingly, the unanimous request. I knew unicorns were popular, but it didn’t prepare me for the screams of excitement when the new carving was spotted ~ and the children were nearly as bad!
