This log was similar to the one used for the “Perching Gnome”, so I considered a similar 3 dimensional piece ~ until I tried moving it: it was heavy. Really heavy. This ruled out moving it every few minutes to carve “in the round”, so I worked on some sketches of a fairy which would use just the face of the log; I managed to avoid a hernia and lifted one end of the log up onto a saw-horse to make it a bit more comfortable to work (as it was also on a slope), and got cracking.
