A full weekend for us, a carving demonstration on Saturday in Barrow, and again at Sewerby Hall on Sunday; luckily we didn’t have far to travel for the first, just round the corner in fact, and we had a fantastic day meeting many of our fellow villagers for the first time since our move.
The carving demonstration / participation was a great success, with children having a go throughout the blustery day. Children never fail to enjoy this activity, it’s a shame so much of this has left the curriculum in schools.
I started carving a running hare, and Sophie and Spencer were among the first to join in:
Jodie was the most enthusiastic participant of the day, having plenty of goes and even offering to carry the log to our car at the end!
All the children received a certificate to prove their achievements with a chisel.
Amanda White from Radio Humberside / Look North, there to judge the wheelbarrows, had a go too…
Not quite good enough for a certificate though, maybe next year!
As a Punch and Judy fanatic it was great to get some pictures of Professor Billy Biscuit and his puppets, carved by the famous Bryan Clarke.
After popping home to warm up and have a brew, it was back to the Market Place to watch the Grimsby Morris Men do their stuff.
So on to Sunday and the longer trip to Sewerby Hall, Bridlington.
Much of the same here, with children and a few adults trying their hand at carving. Here’s the result of the weekends work:
Thanks to everyone who helped!
